It is my pleasure to welcome you to this website, which is designed to assist men considering the call to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Perth. As you explore its contents, I encourage you to ask the Lord to help you be receptive to his will for your life.
All of us are called to pursue holiness within our different vocations. Not everyone can or should be a priest – if the Lord is calling you to marriage, for example, then it is within marriage that you will best please God and grow in holiness. However, given the many societal factors working against Catholic men being open to a priestly vocation, it is appropriate for us to dedicate special attention to assisting those whom the Lord might be calling to this precious and needed vocation.
The priesthood is a wonderful life, involving both great sacrifice and great fulfilment. We priests are called to be a living sign that Jesus Christ continues to be with his people as their Good Shepherd. This is an immense privilege, and an immense responsibility.
If you are considering the priesthood, or want help figuring out your vocation, I encourage you to get in touch with the team at the Vocations Office. They are there to assist you in the often difficult task of discerning the Lord’s will for your life.
I ask everyone to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life in our Archdiocese, and to pray also for the many fine priests and religious who have already answered the Lord’s call, as well as those presently in formation.
Do not be afraid of God’s plan for your life. He loves you with great fatherly affection, and he only wants the best for you, as do I. Let me assure you of my continued prayers for you, and I ask you to pray for me, that I may be a good shepherd for the Church in Perth.
Yours in Christ,
+ Archbishop Timothy Costelloe, SDB
